The African Institute for Corporate Citizenship (AICC) has long recognized the links between businesses and human rights, and actively encourages all stakeholders to acknowledge this relationship. Working with numerous project partners in South Africa and abroad, AICC has launched the Human Rights and Business project South Africa (HRB). By facilitating capacity building and networking amongst South African civil society organizations, HRB aims to promote the mainstreaming of human rights policies within South African business strategies.
In March 2008, AICC and the South African Human Rights Commission (SAHRC) will jointly hold a major conference entitled “Human Rights and Business: recognizing responsibility, driving development”. The event is expected to attract over 300 delegates from business, government, and civil society. Highlights will include a special session on human rights and the mining sector, keynote speeches from prominent international guests, as well as dynamic and participatory breakaway sessions.
