Web-portal Objective

The Business Action Against Corruption (BAAC) web-portal aims to create effective and sustainable partnerships between business, governments and civil society in tackling corruption. Through a collaborative effort between the business community , government and concerned citizens we hope to develop collective strategies for overcoing the enabling environment for corruption.
Corruption affects all sectors of society and a multi-stakeholder approach is needed to address this phenomenon. The business community, governments and civil society must collaborate to create consturctive dialogues that can help in the fight against corruption.

Why does it matter?

Corruption is seen as one of the major challenges facing the African continent. Corruption undermines economic and political development and hinders the growth of trade and investment in Africa.

This web-portal aims to provide learning and sharing of the best approaches in the fight against corruption. It provides a platform for people to monitor performances of businesses, governments and civil society in the fight against corruption. It also provides an on-line forum where people could express their views, propose solutions and join hands in various anti-corruption efforts and initiatives.

What are the issues?

The aim of the BAAC online forum is to demonstrate a new paradigm for African-led private-public work against corruption uniquely aligned to strategies of the continent. In particular, it aims to:
  • Investigate the relationship between organized crime and corruption.
  • Assessing legislative and institutional capacity to address corruption
  • Evaluating the effectiveness of anti-corruption policies and programmes
  • Identify the legislative and institutional needs and shortcomings of financial institutions and the business sectors in Africa regarding their ability to effectively control money laundering.

AICC Activities

The African Institute of Corporate Citizenship (AICC) is a key implementing partner of the BAAC and sits on its Governing Board. Founded in 2005, the BAAC network has had four main focus areas:
  • Enforce business leadership against corruption
  • Enforce business and government partnerships against corruption
  • Develop codes of conduct
  • Increase capacity-building to prevent corruption
